Canoe or kayak the beautiful San Joaquin River. The scenic San Joaquin River Parkway offers you and your family and friends an opportunity to relax and escape by paddling through Fresno's urban wilderness! You will see an abundance of wildlife on the river: egrets and herons, ospreys and kingfishers, beaver and deer. During paddling season river currents are gentle enough for beginners, yet challenging for experienced paddlers.
Our certified instructors will turn an ordinary outing into an educational and exciting adventure. We are a great choice for schools, churches, youth, community and scout groups.
Full Moon Paddle
What is the San Joaquin River like at night? The river is alive with
the activities and sounds of its inhabitants! Join us as we paddle the
San Joaquin River in the light of a full moon surrounded by its
wildlife and symphony of sound. This year the Stewardship Program will
be offering monthly Full Moon Paddles from May through September. For
safety, we will be taking a very familiar route, Lost Lake Park to The
Fresno County Sportsman’s Club. We will be starting at twilight,
witnessing a beautiful sunset, and allowing our eyes to adjust to
moonlight. Then our senses will be strained as we absorb the sights and
sounds of the river in the moonlight. You will always remember this
experience! Event Calendar.
The Stewardship Program will provide guides for your trip, stable
sit-on-top kayaks, and life jackets. All you need to bring is your
personal gear and a spirit of adventure. Space is limited for the Full
Moon Paddles. Invite your family and friends and register today! (Participants must be at least 18 years of age and have kayaking experience!)
Instructional Classes
Learn how to kayak by taking an instructional class! The Stewardship Program will be offering basic kayaking classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings this year from 5 to 8 pm. You will learn kayak safety, strokes, rescues and participate in kayak games and races. Classes are designed to prepare you to take a river trip or go on a moonlight paddle. Scholarships are available. No experiencing is required! Event Calendar.
River Trips
Use your kayaking skills to take a river trip this year! The Stewardship Program will be offering trips on the San Joaquin River almost every almost every Saturday in June, July and August. We will also be planning trips to the Merced, Tuolumne, Moklemne, American and Sacramento rivers this year. The earth is 3/4 water so don't limit your self to just 1/4 of the fun. Join us for an exciting and challenging river trip! (Trips beyond the San Joaquin River require padding experience.)
