Canoe or kayak the beautiful San Joaquin River. The scenic San Joaquin River Parkway offers you and your family and friends an opportunity to relax and escape by paddling through Fresno's urban wilderness! You will see an abundance of wildlife on the river: egrets and herons, ospreys and kingfishers, beaver and deer. During paddling season river currents are gentle enough for beginners, yet challenging for experienced paddlers.
Our certified instructors will turn an ordinary outing into an educational and exciting adventure. We are a great choice for schools, churches, youth, community and scout groups.
Learn how to paddle by taking an instructional class! The Stewardship Program will be offering basic kayaking and standup paddling classes on Sunday mornings this year from 9am to 2pm at Lost Lake Park. You will learn water safety, strokes, rescues and participate in games and races. Kayak classes are designed to prepare you to take a river trip or go on a moonlight paddle. Event Calendar.
Paddle with the Eagles
Paddle with the Eagles this year at Millerton Lake State Recreation Area. The Stewardship Program will be sponsoring a series of expeditions to celebrate the return of Bald Eagles to their winter home at Millerton Lake. Millerton Lake hosts the largest Bald Eagle population in the San Joaquin Valley and is the premier destination for viewing eagles. During the winter months they can be seen in trees along the lake and soaring in the sky over the lake. These magnificent creatures living in our backyard have made a 1600 mile journey from summer homes in Northern Canada including the Great Slave Lake in the Northwest territories and Churchill Lake in Saskatchewan. Don't miss this opportunity to see them in action!
Use your kayaking skills to take a river trip this year! The Stewardship Program will be offering trips on the San Joaquin River almost every Saturday June, through October. The earth is 3/4 water so don't limit your self to just 1/4 of the fun. Join us for an exciting and challenging river trip! Event Calendar.
Full Moon Paddle
What is the San Joaquin River like at night? The river is alive with
the activities and sounds of its inhabitants! Join us as we paddle the
San Joaquin River in the light of a full moon surrounded by its
wildlife and symphony of sound. This year the Stewardship Program will
be offering monthly Full Moon Paddles from May through September. For
safety, we will be taking a very familiar route, Lost Lake Park to The
Fresno County Sportsman’s Club. We will be starting at twilight,
witnessing a beautiful sunset, and allowing our eyes to adjust to
moonlight. Then our senses will be strained as we absorb the sights and
sounds of the river in the moonlight. You will always remember this
experience! Read More.
